That tower is awesome. We play games that occasionally require dice. I could see using something like this to roll for all sorts of games.

So, not being a very mathy person, but very interested in the hinge idea for a dice tower, how does one go about figuring out the length that the hinge needs to be in order to reach the front of the tower? I’m assuming there’s a basic math equation that I no longer remember…

2πr for a complete circle. πr for a semi-circle. (And I usually find that a tiny bit extra is nice for keeping the results from stretching too much. Purely subjective.)

Precisely. The little extra helps account for the kerf of the beam and the voids it leaves in the wood. If you do the exact correct length that you calculate per the radius of the bend you want, then your finished arc will end up a bit too short.

Get bent, or how I came to love K factor

It came to my attention tonight that a certain facet of bending things has not been discussed here so I thought we’d discuss it very briefly and I’d drop a few URLs for further reading. Whenever anything is bent two things happen. One, the outer radius is stretched, and two, the inner radius is compressed. A few weeks back, I posted a “Made on a Glowforge” post for a design I made for a dice tower that folds up into a 6"x3"x3" box for travel. First design - Folding Dice Tower with hinge

I was looking through all of the awesome dice towers that people have been making and sharing (and made one of them). I wanted to make one in that could slide down into the corners of the gaming table I am building, and rotate the tray down immediately from there (without pulling the pieces apart). This is excellent! I’ve been brain storming a dice tower that uses a living hinge and this is a great example of how that can be successful. Thank you for sharing.
