Chat Forum on the app

Do I ever know this feeling… The struggle is real!

FWIW your effort to bring some calm to the issue is appreciated.

I sure wish I could like this post multiple times, Chris. Excellent job.

I HATE that annoying new Chat on the side… and If I close it, I can’t see the time left on my project. I don’t have the time or energy to “chat” while I am working.

The large timer leaves when you click “hide” but the smaller countdown in the upper right of the interface continues to be visible.

The time left appears just above where you closed the window. It’s a bit smaller, but still clearly visible.

Chris have you ever authored a book? You get your points across in a very eloquent way.

Did you submit your thoughts to the support team?

Chris1 - that’s brilliant! Many thanks for the video instructions. A few moments work, and the eyesore of a chat mess is gone!
Just for anyone else: The ‘stylebot’ extension is available for the Edge browser, and it works perfectly (yes, I’m using Edge… don’t ask!).

Cheers,

John

This suggestion for Chrome apparently has mixed results. I was able to use an ad blocker (AdBlock) to just block the frame however. That worked perfectly. When you do it though, you click on “Hide something else on this page” and then you have to click on the graphic in the upper left corner of the discord frame. Then you can use the slider in AdBlocker to selectively turn off child objects of the frame.

Posting to keep active

Why keep active? The company is aware, but unlikely to change their stance. There are multiples ways up thread to either temporarily or permanently remove the chat box (I used this one: Chat Forum on the app - #41 by chris1).

So what is your goal?

Thank you very much for that code - I’ve followed your video and installed it on my old Chromebook - it did as you say take only a few minutes.
We’ve already got many distractions going on and this one was a bit ‘in the face’ so I shall feedback to the Glowforge team too.

Kind regards
Kelly

Thank you! This chat is a pain in the ass! You would think they would make what programs they have work before adding new things that make it worse. The iPad program is the worst laxer program I’ve ever used.

Welcome to the forum.
What iPad program are you speaking of? The Glowforge web based interface runs on multiple platforms, but there is no iPad program.

Despite some of us not liking it, it’s incredibly popular. SO many people chatting there.

Chris, this is great and so helpful - thanks for making the video and making everything so simple!

Just a thought - could this be used to change the default colours in the Glowforge window for cut, score, engrave? I find the colours so difficult to see in most instances and it would be great if stylebot could switch out colours for our own choice of bright, hi-vis colours.

They already have a setting for that in Preferences.

(But in general, yes, the purpose of tools like this is to override the styles of web pages. Some easier than others, since modern web apps have a lot of complexity and obfuscation.)

I thank you for this, and add that mostly I don’t mind the chat, just want to be able to block it for more fiddly jobs. Secondly, haven’t looked at the video (I’ve been reading for 62 years and don’t much like video) but will this work with a Mac on Chrome?
