I’ve had our Glowforge Pro running now for probably closer to a month. So far, we love it.
Just wondering though - what’s the most crazy, most interesting object or piece of non-proofgrade material that you’ve cut, engraved or scored on your Glowforge, how thick was is, how many passes did you have to use and how did it turn out?
Thanks in advance!

“Cuts like butter”
Scored some toast. Defocused it for a nice thick line.

Sugar. Sweet!
Updated below! Here’s a sneak peek: [image]
Made a shallow box, smoothed some sugar in the bottom with card stock, and rasterized a solid star at 1000/80 @125 lpi.
The box (around 3cm deep) kept the sugar from blowing, but also localized a bit of smoke. There was no movement from the fans, but the sugar grains pop around a bit as the laser hits them.
At these speeds, there’s not any perceptible yellowing, and the star seems fairly sturdy.
Thoughts:
A shallower box would hold t…
I’ve used the technique a couple of times. Works great, but high humidity limits the lifespan of such creations.

A banana (for a banana split). Way back in the pre-release unit days (April '17).
Friday night and the wife is out helping at a school fundraiser. Kids are all grown or in college. Dog is asleep.
What to do?
Let’s see, there’s some ice cream in the freezer. Some whipped cream in the fridge and this!

Hmmm…banana instigating wanton consumption of empty calories?
Peel it back and what do we have?

Well this has fate written all over it (metaphorically speaking as it’s clearly Glowforge Food!). Grab a couple of pints of ice cream, the aforementioned whippe…

a guitar (well, one of many, but this was the best one).
This one took me a while to figure out how i wanted to do it, since I couldn’t engrave the whole thing in one piece (it’s larger than the engravable area) and i didn’t want to try to line it up perfectly and either (a) trash the body if i messed it up and (b) waste an hour + engrave if step 2 wasn’t perfect.
So I inset from the edges/hardware/pickguard and even though most of it is one large engrave (with a smaller engrave on the return (the part above the neck)), I was able to rotate the guita…

No, the fans did their job, nothing was dirty afterward.

Probably the hard burn on sandstone.
It crystallizes the material into a blueish gem like effect which looks better in person that in picture.
Design has to be gross for good results. Details lost otherwise.
This elfin print and the quote inside was actually too much detail, but I still like the results.

GREAT question! Love reading the replies. This thread is making my day! (doesn’t take much for me, apparently )

How much clean up did those bath bombs require?! I’m just imaging them crumbling everywhere.
And that sushi is AWESOME.

I just want to know how you line that up. There is no way I could even get it on the rice with that accuracy.
