Does anyone know what this box joint is called?

I’d love to build boxes like these, I absolutely hate standard finger joint boxes with wood glue.

I am not sure they have a proper name. Anyone? I have seen them called “snap fit joints.” There have been a few experiments with stuff similar to that here. @dan did something like that awhile back but, I can’t find it right now (since I don’t remember what he called it). There are variants where stuff gives a little, then snaps back like that and, some where bits are deliberately crushed to solidify the joint.

Here is one variant:

Well, there are so many variants that I don’t even know if this particular variant has a specific name.
If I was forced to name it I’d call it an interference fit through tenon.
Be aware that if you want to futz with these you will need to get your kerf where everything is as tight as possible without being so tight that there is damage during assembly.
You can also add little half arrowheads to the tenons to make them simi self-locking.

I tried this but they weren’t very reusable. Getting them to lock was easy, but unlocking not so much.

It was really just an experiment after I too saw something Dan had done using the concept, and I remember thinking little semi-circles would probably work better.

This is a timely reminder, because I’m working on something for a wedding present that needs to be able to be repeatedly disassembled.

I don’t need it to be removable, but I do need it to be quick and solid. I have a ton of holders to make for a french cleat organizational system, and designing everything is going to be a big enough bear, I don’t need to add in the fiddly gluing of finger joints to the project if I don’t need them.

Then I think this thread will help. They worked well for me, although I always cut test pieces to get the best fit for my material.

That’s the one I was thinking of and could not find.

The joint is similar, but now quite like the original Snap and Store box fastening from the Glowforge tutorial. Instead of hooks at the end, it seems the tongue is press fit into the slot.
