Engraving Retro 51 Tornado Pens

I ran out of time (and steam) this year for a holiday gift making production like last year. I resorted to purchasing and engraving some of my favorite pens, the Retro 51 Tornado Classic Lacquers.

The engraving shows up better on darker colors.

Taping down the clip to prevent rotation is a good idea. One pen had a strange balance issue and rotated itself while the engrave was in progress (and now I have a pen for future engraving testing).

Wiping off the engraving with some isopropyl alcohol removes some residue.

Here is the cardboard jig I made, in case anyone else wants to do this. The cyan box is what I determined to be the optimal aesthetic engrave area.

Classy! Makes the pen a little easier to track if it walks off with the wrong person…

Those pens will be in high demand even though they are named. You do such good work.

That is amazing, I have some inspiration for next Christmas!

Where did you source the pens?

Retro 51 sells them directly:

… but you can usually get them a little cheaper from the various pen places. These two have had the lowest prices when I have checked:

Very nice work! Can you share GF settings?

Certainly. Glowforge requires that non-proofgrade settings and materials be relegated to the Beyond the Manual section. So, answered there.
