Modified Hex Boxes

I needed to wrap the pens I engraved. I made these boxes to accommodate the pens in their original packaging.

I wish I had taken the time to adjust the kearning/line spacing of the vertical type. I was trying to get them out the door, and was feeling precious about my dwindling stash of this discontinued stock.

That is a very nice box. Pen is very nice as well. I’m sure there is hot competition to be on your gift list!

So unique. What a cool ‘double’ gift, the pen and the box!

The gift box tells you a lot about the quality of the gift. Those are lovely!

those are so beautiful. What/hire were they printed?

I just realized that this box has some design similarities to this one:

Rotated hex end shapes. Interesting to see it with sharp corners.

Thank you.

The areas that look printed (the off-center spiral and the text) are low-power engraves. With this stock, ablating the surface off reveals the contrasting color inside.

Unfortunately, the company that made this particular paper stock, Arjowiggins, went under in 2022. An Italian company, Fedrigoni purchased what was left and is now manufacturing a very small subset as their Sirio Pearl line ( Coloured papers with a pearlescent surface Sirio | Special Papers ). I have only tried the Ice White from that line so far, which engraves to a pale metallic gold color:

There are quite a few paper stocks that are made with different color cores that may behave similarly. Experiment!

You can do some pretty crazy things with white core card stock.

Oh! :forehead smack: I should have known that.

As a paper crafter from way back, there used to be a card stock line called DoubleMates; two different colors on one sheet. Beautiful, and certainly had some interesting uses. I still have a few sheets. :sigh: They, too, are long gone.

Back in the day when I worked in small self publishing I used to love all the sample books with all the different papers…

Thank you for entertaining my dumb question so fully.
