Well, I am super excited to officially be the proud owner of a Glowforge! It arrived yesterday and we set it up on our wooden desk and I realize now it is a bit wobbly. I am afraid to turn it on and the table not be study enough. I went out last night in search of something a little more heavy duty to hold my new gem, but found more dead ends than options. I am wondering what others are using to set their Glowforge on. I found a large 52 inch Husky Tool cabinet, however it is on locking casters. It seemed sturdy once wheels were locked, but I’m still a little concerned if it will be steady enough. Has anyone else used a tool cabinet in place of a counter?
If you are ok with the cost it is ideal especially if your machine is a pro. Locking wheels means you can use the pro pass through trick at any distance or put against the wall otherwise.
All those thin shelves are also great for storing all that wood flat so it would warp less.
BTW, the case for the laser will flex, so it is important for it to be on a flat surface. Flat is more important than level. Otherwise the lid might rub on the edge somewhere. If it does you can shim one corner with a few sheets of paper. To determine where to shim it, slightly lift on one corner and observe the lid clearance. One of them will correct for the flex.
Welcome to the culb! We are excited to have you join us. You have a great adventure in store!
I use a Husky tool cabinet under mine. It is 39" wide by 18" deep. I actually replaced all the wheels because 2 were swiveling with locks and 2 were non swiveling. I replaced them all with 4 swiveling (couldn’t find the exact right size to just replace 2) and now I can swing that thing around when I need it and stow it away against a wall when I don’t. More than sturdy enough and lots of storage.
I few months ago I was on a web forum where a scene from a particular movie was being discussed. Secure site (SSL cert valid). VBulletin-hosted. I posted in that thread.
The very next time I opened Netflix on my TV, that movie was top “recommended”.
I have the 6ft, 2 drawer version Husky table and I love it. I don’t use the castors, because I was afraid there would be a wobble. There may not have been any wobble at all, but I didn’t want to take the chance and then have to disassemble everything to remove them. The drawers are wonderful for wood and acrylic storage as well. I love the table so much I bought a 2nd one to use as a sit/stand desk for working from home. I really can’t recommend it enough!
Wow! That is fantastic, it fits perfect! And your venting system you have set up is amazing!! I didn’t buy the Glowforge filter so I just have mine thrown out of the window and towels to block the space around it. If you don’t mind my asking, what all did you use to set yours up and where did you get it?
