Already got it, that is a link to the post in tips and tricks. Thank you.

Ah, sorry, I’m multitasking with work stuff and didn’t click through. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, we all need this sort of improvement. I am going to do it RSN. Unfortunately, I’m in the middle of an important work project – I work from home – so this upgrade will have to wait for a week or so.

I completed the recalibration and it worked great. I’d post a pic but it’s essentially the same as many of the others – nearly spot on. This is really useful so THANK YOU.

One thing… I nearly missed this important news because I always look for updates in the Announcements and the latest one is the April update. However, I see this news is dated May 6. Where should I look to keep up with these kind of announcements?

Normally, the Announcement section. Calibration is a little unique in that the capability is still being tweaked and by being announced here will have a lesser impact on the Support team. It’s a relatively complicated process that needs a slower rollout.

Exactly. We wanted this to be low profile for now so we can gather data on performance before we have thousands of calibration requests pouring in.

So - watch announcements for major announcements. Read everything for occasional bonus tidbits like this.

Ok. Thanks for the explanation.

I tried it yesterday, it got stuck after reading the measurements. My try this morning got stuck in “processing measurements.”

Now I need to buy more draftboard.

or mask the used piece.

I’m sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this. I checked out the logs from the print in your photo, and it looks like you didn’t use Set Focus before running the print. Could you please let me know if you’re still seeing the same offset after using Set Focus before printing?

Thanks for letting us know that happened, @karen1. I looked into your report, and it seems there was an issue on our end. I’ve made a small change to fix this up for you - your new camera calibration should be active next time you turn on your Glowforge.

Wow! Thank you so much Vee.

I’m going out of town for a few weeks, my draftboard should arrive then as well. I look forward to doing this sometime in June.

Way better than my previous 1/2" drift! I’'ll totally take it and say thank you

This is a VERY cool thing rolled out to us.
But, oh, the duality!

On one hand
I get pretty perfect results today. Always have with this unit. I can align to a sliver of the edge and it cuts to that sliver. Is it actually perfect? Could be! What if running this calibration screws the perfectness I already have?!

On the other hand
What if it’s not perfect and could be made better by doing this? What if I can easily do perfect double-sided cuts with this newly-found actual perfect alignment?

So torn!

QUESTION: When the scan finishes, is there an opportunity to know what the change will be? In other words, will it show me “Here’s what’s seen now. Here’s what it will look like with the correction applied. Do you want to apply the correction?” Or will it just say “Okay. The scan’s complete and the correction’s been applied.” OR… Is there a way to revert the changes if I choose?

No, yes and no. If you want it reverted, someone from support is going to have to do it for you.

If you’re happy with your alignment now, don’t run it.

While my current placement isn’t as perfect as yours, it is very good and I almost never lose something because of it. I’m debating whether or not to try to make it better.

At least one person had their calibration reverted to the factory file, but it was done by support.

@jules and @caribis2, thanks for the advice. Good to know Support can revert if I want them to. I probably won’t run the calibration tool. I dunno. Still torn.

You might as well tell me “Don’t push the big, shiny, red button marked ‘PUSH ME.’”

Mine alignment is was really good and I ran it and it got worse. They offered to roll it back, but I tried again and it got better, but still not perfect. Now it’s slightly off in different ways.

Yeah, okay… I’m out. I’m happy with what I’ve got. If it can be better I’d like it to be, of course.

NEW QUESTION: Does this method preclude future changes from the mother ship that would improve the current alignment? I recall some time ago that something was rolled out to everybody that could improve alignment. Will those events still take place or does this new method replace that?
