First inlay projects

I just finished my first two inlay projects, and thought I would share my methods. I chose a pair of store bought cutting boards ($25-35 on Amazon) as my test pieces. I used just one type of inlay wood per board. I tried to start with two inlay woods, but it just turned out to be too complicated. I have experimented several times with various approaches. Almost all designs have a part that is connected and a part that is disconnected. If I have two thicknesses, then I engrave the disconnected part in the thicker material, and cut out the connected part in the thinner material. This makes it easier to fit everything.

If it is marquetry, there is a need to keep the designs simple to make it easier to fit.
