You are so evil!
Anytime! LOL
My kids (daughter & son) are still big on Legos. One is post-grad & the other a sophomore but both will get Legos for Christmas. (Post-grad is getting his 16th Hess Holiday Truck but that’s a whole 'nother obsession )
My wife was looking at the Holiday catalog last night and must have pointed out a dozen that she thought were cool and we (read “she”) should get
I took notes.
Girls like legos too…and not the stupid Friends crap…lol
I have several (ok 20 or so) large sets at my office, several bins of loose pieces and dozens and dozens (easily over 150) of minifigs. All mine…lol.
My son is allowed to play with them sometimes…but he has his own at home
You go girl!!! My kind of people
Of course!
But don’t knock the “Friends” crap. There are girls (and women… and men and boys for that matter) that like the girl-themed Lego sets. The Elves were pretty cool, as are the DC girl hero sets, though none of them ticked that box for me of something I wanted to spend money on. My niece had a few of the friends sets, but then I don’t know what happened… she found video games or something so I kind of inherited a bunch of her Lego… Usually inheritance goes from older to younger, but not in this family!
I for one am glad to see Lego expand and take over so many aisles at the stores!
Once I get it hung, I’ll have to post a pic of my Lego mini-fig display case. It holds 70! I also have a gallon zip-lock that I need to replace with something bigger for all the other mini-figs I have. I was very scared because I couldn’t find it after the move. Eventually I did find it though. There are figs in there from my very first Lego sets when I was a kid.
I did love the elves and the new colors that came with the new friends are awesome!!!..I should have been more specific…it was the figures they created that I have an issue with…
There were already lots of girl minifigs…I dont see why they had to make a weird looking figure…lol
My daughter has the women scientists set when she was little and took them to college to sit on her widowsill.
Captain Awesome says the same thing! bahaha I can’t help it…
I agree whole-heartedly with you. I did not see the reason to reinvent the mini-fig, and it is a big part of why none of those sets have really appealed to me.
Women of NASA set is now available!
The guy at the lego store says they dont sell many of the friends sets. They had two options for Wonder Woman when the movie came out…one regular minifig and one Friends style. Guess which sold out in one day…and guess which (as of last weekend) they still have much of the original stock of…
The Elves sets are great. I have nearly all of the first year’s sets and several of the second year sets. (I don’t like the third year sets as much.) I’ve always been very impressed by the range of building techniques in the Elves sets (and the few Friends sets I have). Much better than some of the juniorized crap in the “boys” side of the aisle.
I’ve gotten used to the figures. They look weird next to minifigs, but if the Friends figures had been around since 1978 and the minifig were introduced today, we’d all laugh out loud at the minifigures’ odd proportions and blockiness. It just comes down to what you’re used to. My understanding is that focus testing showed that minifigs were one of the big stumbling blocks to getting more girls interested in LEGO. Girls who were already fans tended to like the minifigs, but the newer more realistic figures were effective at pulling in a new audience who had ignored existing LEGO products.
That said, I do wish they’d make more of their generic themes (e.g. City) less boy-centric. Ever since they switched from Town to City they’ve pretty much only made firetrucks and police stations in that theme.
I’ve gotten really good at “feeling” the mystery bag set without damaging the bag. I was able to get all of the Simpson figures for Captain Awesome! He thinks it’s my hidden talent!
Edit: Some collector guy wanted to pay me $ to find the comic guy since that was the one he was missing, I did it pro bono
I’ve done that too. I was able to get just the Simpsons that I wanted. Sometimes I still just grab and go when I see a new wave come out.
Nearly a year later and I stumble on this thread… and here’s my most recent AWESOME Lego set!
I love that this thread about the Nintendo Switch evolved into a Lego thread!
But now… it is about that giant Rice Krispie treat!
My niece really wanted it… and paid for it herself!
Is it strange that I like Voltron even more as an adult than I did as a kid?
Not at all. The Netflix Voltron show is amazing. It’s one of my favorite shows.
