Print Stopped -- Won't engrave

Hi All,

I just got my glowforge plus HD about a week ago. It works great until I want to engrave on my cutting boards. Everytime I go to engrave it says “Print Stopped. Unable to Complete Print.” I can engrave acrylic, and all proofgrade woods… just not my cutting boards.

It is within the 0-.5 distance that it should be without the crumb tray. I cleaned the lens. I powered off the machine… Restarted my browser, cleared cache. Everything I’ve read to do. This has been happening since I got it a week ago. I’ve only been able to get it to engrave 1 cutting board once.

Any suggestions?

Can you share a photo of the cutting board ready to be engraved in the Glowforge? Are you using the set focus tool prior to placing your artwork?

The fact that it is a cutting board and not acrylic or Proofgrade material does not make a difference to the machine.

Without the crumb tray, the top of your cutting board would need to be roughly 1.5-2" off the floor of the machine. That is the focal range of the laser – from where the top of the crumb tray would be to half an inch above that.

As most folks have presumed, it’s very likely the focus height - this might help that:

The other reason for that particular error is an issue with the file. Are you attempting an engrave from a :glowforge: provided design, or is it one of your own making? If the latter, you might try something as easy as copying it and saving it into a new file. If you’d like one of us to see if we’re having any issue with it, you can upload it here.

Hi Dan! I built a base and measured it using the no math ruler and it is within the 1.5-2’’ range.

Again, please share a photo of the your cutting board ready to engrave and your settings. Also, have you tried a different file?
