Settings for 1mm clear acrylic

I could not find settings for 1mm (0.04") clear acrylic, so I did some test cuts and thought I would post to save others the trouble. I did not test engrave or score settings, but that should the same as or close to the usual settings. As this is pretty thin material I wanted to control the kerf, so I ended up doing a 2-pass cut to keep the speed up and the power down.

I used these 1mm clear acrylic sheets that are supposedly cast acrylic, but no guarantees. The smell was not too bad (with filter), so this may actually be cast and not poured. These sheets only had paper on one side, so put that side up. I put a sheet of 110# card stock underneath as per my usual practice.

Thanks for sharing. If you have the time it’d be great if you added it to the settings spreadsheet linked in #6 here:

This are mine, for what I get from the local big-box store:

Quite a bit different. It varies… faster did not work, and I pretty much always use full power.

I started with full power, but the kerf was unacceptably wide, so I dialed it back.

I just made a coaster with a lot of engraving to determine if this is cast or poured, and based on the poor engraving quality I’m going to say this is poured and not cast. I sent a note to the Amazon vendor - we’ll see what happens. I guess my filter is working really well, as there is almost no odor. My first project with this acrylic was a replacement part; I thought the edges looked too rounded off for cast acrylic. Oh well. I’ll have to keep looking for cast material.

It’s actually called extruded…and yes, I’ve had the same experience with that type of acrylic.

The stuff I use is intended for replacement of glass in picture frames. They often have scraps in the bin next to the cutting station.
