If thatll fit in your budget, go for it! I have a good friend with that size boss and he loves it. Their support is amazing as well.
It could go either way. Weāll update our forecasts weekly with actual production data so the date will definitely move as production bottlenecks come and go.
I mean they launched a product in half the time trying to offer more capabilities⦠Removable floor and rotary capability is pretty nice. Not saying its perfect, but did they over promise any more than Glowforge? There are very few Glowforges in customer hands yet, and we have not idea how good their support will be really. 9 Months away is close to where some people in the preorder line up are. I not canceling yet, but I am trying to be realistic.
We canāt. Weāve done you terribly wrong, and nothing we do will make it right. The closest we can come is devoting all our efforts to getting you and the others who donāt have your Glowforge yet the product you paid for, as soon as possible.
SoOoOoO, my end of May, beginning of June timeframe could be actually even further off?
Take a look at YouTube for FSL Muse.
I know Boss.
I teach laser operations & design. This isnāt my first rodeo. Good luck with your new one. (BTW, donāt build a business plan on being able to cut metal with a 150W CO2 laser.)
Folks (in the US anyway) might be able to find decent Epilogs (the Zing is a good machine in the same class as the GF although pricy new) or Trotecs for something potentially reasonable dollarwise on the used market. Do a check on Craigslist but with an expanded search. Might be worth a few hundred miles drive for a half priced Epilog.
Our money is not available to Glowforge (IIRC - there are heaps of other threads about this), it is held in trust.
Glowforge have a large amount of capital from sources (including buyers) external to us
I am sure someone can explain this better than i.
tl:dr if Glowforge go under before you get your machine you will still probably get a full refund
He isnāt. Itās clear heās had production issues for MONTHS and choose to wait until the last minute AGAIN to announce anything. He knew heād loose even more preorder customers⦠and heās ok with it.
At some point; I suspect heās going to be left with a bad situation where the preorder money left⦠and his venture capitalists are done funding his procrastination.
The real Icing on the cake is he admitted in one thread that he hasnāt even started getting paperwork to sell in non-US countries⦠that should speak volumes at his lack of leadership. They didnāt care to develop the pro in parallel to the basic. They didnāt care to develop the Air filter in parallel to the basic or pro. They didnāt care to get regulatory buyoff in parallel to the US requirements.
Itās a house of cards destined for failure.
Ah thank you!
I dont have too much fear about them going out of business any time soon. They have an astronomical amount of orders, just from the preorder campaign. Their material offerings are also really amazing. I was skeptical at first, but love them after having used them. They will have plenty of income from that venture to keep them afloat, as well as catalog sales.
Its enough for me to stay in the game =)
With the utmost respect to @takitus, if glowforge was trying to buy his silence, they should probably get a refund.
Yes. Or closer in. The line could easily run 10% faster or slower than forecast, which would move dates by a month. (And we built some margin in there, so even if everything just goes as planned it would slowly slide in).
I actually told myself that if Dan F-s us again with another missed deadline that Iām going to take my money and buy a boss laser. I actually was looking at a used one (1 year old) in So Cal⦠and was glad he sold it to some local so I didnāt have to drive from TX to SoCal to get it.
Iām beyond pissed that my predictions about Danās schedule were true⦠and that I have no choice but to cut my losses now.
What bothers me most is the amount of effort that went into the marketing of a product that was already sold to a large croudfunding campaign. Clearly production design and engineering needed far more manpower and international certification needed far more effort.
I feel like an idiot for being part of building this empire, for all I know, of vapourware.
My initial impression is that this product was to be released within three months of my payment. This decision may have been one of my worst.
@dan can you at least tell us if you have the part inventory already realized (better does the factory actually have the material/parts)? or are you still on ājust in timeā practices of the material?
I believe it would go a long way to at least tell your awaiting customers like me, if you have material to build their machines. That way material slippages will not cause delays.
(I have done EOL/quality/bonded part management for almost 20 years and have worked with Flextronics, SMART, and other CM so please do not patronize me about the complexity of such a task)
I hate to tell you @dan but judging by the multiple threads and the multitude of posts, you kind of have a huge issue right now and a whole lot of us feel like battered housewives at this point. Too beat to leave and used to the abuse. I know youāve been trying to make things right and have been apologizing to no end but eventually those small little incentives and apologies wonāt make things right anymore.
In some part of your mind I am quite sure you knew there would be backlash but I really donāt think any of us were expecting such a major delay, as far as I can figure from most of these posts the average delay is +4 months than what they expected.
Is there any talk about possibly extending the 10% discount thru 2018, extended further due to many people not getting their unit until mid 2018 and possibly getting less than 6 months of that incentive?
I would rather be upgraded to a Pro lol but that wont happen and the time difference between them I wouldnt see a Pro model for like 3-5 months after my date.
Iād take a pro as compensation for the delay and Iād be happy as a clam if that were an option. Hell Iād wait til the end of 2018 if that were an option.
@dan I have an idea. I think our warranty should AT LEAST match the amount of time we spent waiting for this product. That would certainly make me think twice about not canceling. To say we have been through a lot is an understatement.
Iām literally waiting to give my family their 2015 Christmas present and you just told me I have to wait until at least March of 2018, dude, that sucks. At least you gave me enough time to actually have a laser under the tree (if you know what I mean).
1 year is certainly better than 6 months, but, thatās not very long for something I donāt plan to use every day.
Has anyone actually cancelled? Iād like to know how long until I see my money returned.
do an @ symbol followed by his username which is Dan. (no period following).
