When I’ve made tattoo-inspired pieces for people, they provided me with the original artwork from which the tattoo itself was copied. They are typically one-off commissioned designs.
This went from idea to delivery in the few hours before his flight left. She didn’t know it was coming so all I had was the picture above. An actual art photo would have required so much less editing!
Having a tatoo is always a bold decision. It came out wonderful, and the transition to wood is also great @deirdrebeth. Personalized gifts are the best!
I have a small, maybe 1.5" dragonfly on my back shoulder, and it wasn’t very painful at all. My main problem with tattoos is that I don’t numb very well, and years ago I got permanent makeup - eyebrows and eyeliner. Getting the eyebrows done wasn’t too bad, but the eyeliner was very painful for me, more so on the left eye than the right. The gal who did it was excellent, but so many times I was ready to tell her to quit it hurt so bad, but of course I had to let her finish. Although the eyebrows have faded some, the eyeliner still looks great, and I’ve never regretted having it done.
I could never have a visible tattoo due to my role in industry, but I got this one one my shoulder two years ago while my daughter (Army Combat Medic) was in Morocco support a global joint-forces exercise across 7 countries in North Africa.
i did one tattoo piece as a guitar, but i only had photos of the two tats as reference (they were slightly different, one on dad, one on daughter). and it was a surprise father’s day gift, so i couldn’t really look at his tat that closely other than the pic i got. i had to adapt it anyway, since both tattoos actually included a flying V guitar in them. so i did the roses part.
When I was younger I wanted a tattoo. My dad told me when I get out of basic training, I could get one because that’s when he and my grandfather got theirs. When I got out of basic, he asked what tattoo I got. I told him I decided tattoos weren’t for me because there was nothing I liked enough to have a permanent place on my body and that I’m too much of a perfectionist to trust a stranger to draw on me.
Even now, i can’t really imagine getting a tattoo.
@ellencadwell my mother’s side of the family is big on permanent make up. But after seeing my grandmother’s eyebrows permanently etched in surprise mode and my mother’s looking like blue pen instead of hair, once again, I decided that wasn’t for me.
