I created some more Stipple Portraits to get in the spirit of Halloween. They are more vivid in person. They are svg files cut on 5x7 chipboard.
Got a pic of the internals? (if you care to share)
Nice! Are you putting them in your windows?
Here is what looks like with the lights on. It is ridiculously simple. I just put a LED light strip in a box.
At the bottom I made a “light maze” so that light won’t leak out the bottom. It has enough space to fit a ESP8266 so I can control it with IFTTT.
Prize to the first person that can tell the name the first portrait…
Hey Google, bring forth Frankenstein’s monster!
Here are the files…
William Henry Pratt.
He is in the last one too.
Wow, amazing! They really convey the mood. I think my favorite is the Count Dracula one—the mood lighting is very subtle.
W O W ! ! Very cool technique. (I’ve seen stippling before, but never with cut outs of every dot!)
You mean Boris Karloff?
I think timjedwards called it right:
Jules called the actor’s real name:
Ah I didn’t realize Boris Karloff was a stage name. Interesting.
@bwente thanks for sharing your your project. I love them. would you mind discussing your workflow on creating the “light brite” effect from a photo? I’m not that experienced in that area so would greatly appreciate it.
If you search the forum for “stipple” or “halftone”, you’ll find a bunch of resources about how this sort of thing is done.
Here are a couple of the results:
