Learned something new today, my wife was asking me to engrave some signs for the horse stalls on 2-layer 1/16” acrylic (1.5mm for non-US folks) and while looking at JPPlus realized there is now TRI-LAYER acrylic. What-the-what??? Quickly watched the video on it, blew my mind, and people do patches with it (which really blew my mind). Also JPPplus lady’s hat press is either a VFX or is nuclear fusion powered, my hat press takes 20-seconds to bond a normal leatherette patch with lonestar adhesive and she does it in like a second through acrylic. Then she has a giant press that let her apply the adhesive in one go to the entire acrylic sheet.
What is interesting is all the tutorials I found on doing the hat patches mention you want almost no air assist (not none but like 5%) which isn’t a settable thing on the Glowforge but otherwise the spew of layer 3 can settle and discolor layer 2. Maybe a little blue painter’s tape over the nozzle might slow down the air, but have enough to keep it away from the lens?
I’ve used the 3-layer Rowmark (I think white core with red on both sides) but only for two-sided stuff, so I didn’t need to worry about that. (I was just engraving through the red to the white core on each side.)
