Here is an old tutorial about Inkscape, text, and a cut around the text. I think following the steps may help you. Make a Name Pendant in Inkscape
Text created in Inkscape does not upload to the Glowforge interface. It has to be converted to a path. Also, text is engraved, not cut so an offset line has to be utilized for cutting around a text block that has been converted to a path.
