Cutting and engraving on CMB two tone acrylic

Has anyone done engraving and cutting CMB two tone acrylic? I am trying to make SVG Society’s Christmas ornaments and they include letter tiles made with this material. It cannot be masked and I am looking for the correct GF settings. Appreciate the help.

Acrylic is pretty basic material. This should cut with the setting for the Proofgrade acrylic in a similar color and thickness. Start with medium red acrylic cut settings and adjust as needed. For engraving, read through the forum regarding two color acrylic. There are tips for defocussing and running second passes to clear the debris left by engraving through the top color.

Unfortunately, this material must be different. I have lowered the engraving settings to 1000 / 80 and I am still having trouble. The color on the top of the acrylic comes off in different areas. I will call the vendor tomorrow.

You can use dish soap like Dawn as a mask for acrylic. I do that all the time. It catches dust and washes right off.

Thank you, but how will that keep the top coat on?

That top coat looks to be melting off from the heat, try the dish soap method and just use a scrap or corner to do a small piece. The dish soap acts as a barrier, so maybe it’ll protect those tiny bits from heat. Couldn’t hurt to try one while waiting for an answer from the supplier.

#2 in my FAQ has a link to a YouTube video about the dish soap method.
