Do we have any idea of what ‘old age’ looks like from the laser?

I extracted the logs to investigate the problem you reported. I noticed you printed with the crumb tray removed and used some material below the laptop, to lift the laptop up to the appropriate height.

Unfortunately, the surface of the Macbook was still too far below the the laser head to be in the range where the laser can focus properly.

You may find this community post with details about effectively printing without a crumb tray to be helpful for future projects.
