I agree. IMHO, Pessimism is being prematurely disappointed in the future.
I try to be careful with my perspective, it colors my life.
People have a ton of reasons to care. Some people are literally planning their lives around this thing. Making space for it. Telling their customers when to expect certain things. Some planned on having additional revenue already and have had major life impacts. So, it may not be important to you but, please understand, itâs important to many. And it goes far beyond what you seem to think it means.
Iâm with you though as far as keeping my order. The moneyâs spent. Iâm at peace with that. I just hate being lied to. I just want to hear the truth⌠âYeah⌠We effed up. Weâre not really shipping out most units until Q1 2018. But this time we mean it. No more excuses. Youâre really really really getting it or weâll send you one for free.â
Ah, but the way the world is, a pessimist is not often disappointed and even occasionally pleasantly surprised
I canât argue that, but expecting good things gives me a sunny disposition, and thatâs my preference.
That assumes mal-intent not in evidence. I guess we could assume that GF is just deliberately lying to us â but in that case, I for one would not let them keep my money and I would go do business with a company I felt was more in line with my core essences. Fortunately, I believe that GF is actually that company.
Authenticity is crucially important to me, and I have seen no evidence of willful dishonesty. But then again, I have managed to live these numerous decades of my life by giving folks the benefit of the doubt and expecting the very best of folks â and, Pollyanna that it may seem to some, I have very rarely been disappointedâŚ
Lied to? Hmmm⌠this kind of talk is no fun and doesnât feel like an attempt to be constructive.
The world is not always a simple place. All this speculation makes it even more complicated.
What I think I know is that the folks at Glowforge have good intentions and it will benefit their company to follow those intentions. For me, thatâs enough to keep waiting.
Peace, love, and patience to all!
It will be nice when the final release GFs start shipping and the discussions can focus on technical and usage aspects instead of parsing shipping statements.
cant wait for that
In fact, your statement does that. Mine simply states I hate being lied to. And that, I promise you, is true.
I always go with âhope for the best, prepare for the worst.â I hope to get my laser sometime in that May-June range, but am totally prepared to wait much longer.
If a festival was advertised as happening in May through August, I think it would be reasonable to expect that it will start IN May, not just at any point before August 31st.
GF boxes are big. So even if theyâre doing x shipments at a time youâre only talking about a couple hundred or so per truck or shipping container. Not going to want to let those stack up on a loading dock.
Thanks Chad - that is correct. While we shared some of our production goals, the only âdeadlinesâ - that is, dates you should use for purposes of planning your Glowforge delivery - are July and August.
Weâre not planning to share our shipping numbers.
Does that mean Glowforge has officially abandoned your most-recent shipping announcement âwill get their deliveries in May?â
I imagine and hope an excited recipient of the very first (or one of the first) final production Glowforges will share their experiences with us.
Nobody should plan to get their Glowforge in May. I apologize for being confusing; I attempted to communicate that some people will, but I can see how the extra information obscured the key point, which was when you (and everyone else) should plan to receive yours. (Even those who are offered an earlier delivery can defer until later)
Will some people get an actual production machine in May? I.e. not a pre-release.
Thanks for trying to explain, but your explanation is confusing me (and @palmercr apparently). I have no idea what youâre dancing around saying ânobody should to get their GF in Mayâ and then you say "I attempted to communication that some people will. I have 0 expectation of receiving my unit in May. Iâd love to have mine and will absolutely accept it in May, but itâs not an expectation.
The question that seems to have been answered, and then un-answered is as @palmercr askedâŚ
The answer really speaks volumes to the state of things. At least as far as I see it.

I thought it was pretty clear. There will be people who get their unit in May. But a specific individual should plan for theirs to come in July. Any individual might get it in May but also might not so for planning purposes July is the (current) safe bet. (For pre-Oct 26 orders anyway.)
Missed a key word there â PLAN.
Yes⌠I missed the word. Thanks for noticing. It doesnât change my point/question/concern.
Thatâs what I would think, too. So whatâs the point of the clarification? I still just want a crystal clear answerâŚ
Will some people get an actual production machine in May? I.e. not a pre-release.
