Spiral thingy

Inkscape, Baltic birch, and a random dowel from Home Depot…

Tried to upload a video clip but doesn’t seem to have worked. Hmm.

I have no clue what that is, but suddenly I have to have one.

I find the size limitation for uploads of videos way to small. I wind up just linking to the video.

A small LED at the base, or making the bottom out of clear acrylic could really bring out the depth.

Totally agree, but this is more a proof of concept than it is anything else. I also considered cutting small spacers for each layer to let light in from the sides, but in the end I liked the compact version.

I like the compact size too. Now if you had access to different colored pieces of acrylic…

Wow, super cool! I’m really liking these layered pieces that have been cropping up.

I have been thinking of the bamboo skewers you find in the grocery store, they come in several diameters and are very strong for their size, so the through pins can be very small.

I would REALLY love to make one of these. Or…just a tutorial on how to make something similar in Illustrator. I get that it’s a revolving pattern, I just have no idea how I’d do that for cutting. Simply gorgeous.

Oooh, this is a funky idea! Smart idea to use dowels for alignment.

I want to see this done in acrylic.
