Thermal Laminated Cardstock

Hello all,

I’m a super newbie to GF and had a quick question? Is thermal laminate safe to cut? I use the 3M and the Walmart brand thermal pouches. I’m hopping to use it to make bookmarks and such since when they’re cut on a vinyl cutter the edges are super sharp.

Google search says they’re made of polyester film but doesn’t say what the thermal adhesive is - just says resin or thermal adhesive.

A forum search came up with one topic about using them for sublimation and mentioned laminated then cutting. So I assume it’s safe?

Thank you in advance!

Hey, welcome!

I’ve written up a series of answers to pretty common questions — check out number four, it’s all about material safety.

I’m not familiar with the material you’re talking about, do you have a URL for a product page?

I assume you’re talking about these, that come in both heat and cold versions? You’d need to contact the manufacturer of the actual product you have, or check their web site for a MSDS.

Here’s the MSDS, it says PFAS or the “forever chemical” in the only thing listed. https://cdmsweb.3m.com/ingredientcommunication/file/Media/KB3vbocxLto=

Again, you would need to know what’s in the material you have, or plan to buy. If it’s not listed, choose a different manufacturer that does, or contact the manufacturer.

It’s posssible there are many types of chemicals used.

It also occurred to me - the heat from cutting would likely seal the edges.
