I think the reliability is increasing as they are finding every possible weakness and making adjustments.

Iā€™m finding that the temp and humidity may be to high in the garage. Iā€™m going to make that a work bench to prep and then will do the actual printing in my home office. Now have to rearrange the whole space! Haha

Better to find out now, than be disappointed when it arrives.

Hello, I also live in Florida, in St Augustine. I have a pro, I am a founder, and my box of magic has been dream.
The first summer was a nightmare with the heat in my garage. I bought 1ā€insulation board to put on the inside of my garage door.
The magic number back then was 81deg, a few months later, a few tweeks from the awesome geeks and they managed to get that number to 83 deg. Those 2 degrees made a huge difference for me. I have one of those 12000 btu roll around portable ac units.
The ac unit and the Glowforge can share the vent especially if the ac unit is downwind from the glowforge on a ā€œYā€ connector. It will act as a suction device to help the evac of fumes.
I am also sending a link for the ā€œassist fanā€,
I have found that the assist fan is a MUST!
Here are a few pointers that I have learned here in N Florida.
~Get GOOD quality clear, spiral reinforced vinyl hose, very easy to see when it may need cleaning.
~Use 6ā€ PVC pipe whenever feasible to run your exhaust, it is self supporting, very easy to install and will last forever.
~Use an assist fan, Very important, you can get approximately 200 CFM from a 4 ā€œ unit, 440 CFM from a 6ā€ unit.
~I cannot stress enough about keeping your glowforge clean. Get into a routine, using acrylic will get you about 3 table-loads before NEEDING a cleaning. All the gummy, sappy or manufactured woods will make everything very dusty and dirty.
1 table-load will get you a date with Mr 98% isopropyl alcohol and a good supply of micro lint free cloths.

My experience has been that too hot and humid for the Glowforge is also too hot and humid for me as well. there is a lot of computer prep work, but I am finding that most of the time spent is cleaning, assembling, and finishing after the Glowforge has done its work. unless you are doing simple cutouts like earrings in :proofgrade: material, you will have a lot of post-processing that is a lot like other woodwork if your materials are of wood (as example) so having the rest of the shop is a good thing.

Hey Jose!

I canā€™t thank you enough for all the recommendations. Sounds like you really know your machine and how best to use it. Iā€™ll definitely take your advice. Iā€™d love to see some of your work if you ever upload anything!

Thanks again!

Thanks for the feedback @rbtdanforth! Iā€™m going to start looking up videos on cleaning my Glowforge now before it comes in!

I say put in a wall AC unit in the garage and insulate the garage door.

Resist putting the GF inside your house at all costs, it will definitely bring a smell ā€“ even with perfect ventilation, your materials will gas out (fresh cut masking is not a smell I want inside my house). If you can work it out to be in the garage it will be far better.

Resist a roll around AC unit unless itā€™s your only option. They arenā€™t nearly as effective as a wall unit.

What area in N Florida?

St aug! Close to ponte vedra. You south or north st aug?

I definitely agree with the comment from evansd2, the roll around was not my first choice, living here in florida, hurricane preparedness is more important than a little bit of inefficiency. My plans are to eventually have a window unit mounted in the outside garage wall. Having the roll around a/c first was a priority for me. I still agree with evansd2.
It was one of the reasons I asked about the general area in N. Florida. But now that I think about it, and according to recent history, Florida ā€¦ anywhere in Florida is concerning with Hurricanes.

I will email info
