Small five intersecting tetrahedra sculpture

Hi everyone, I remade this piece with acrylic, which looks nice to me.

The pattern for 0.25mm kerf is
simple fit - quarter mm kerf

I have also made a video of how to assemble. It’s a very enjoyable puzzle!

Very nice, indeed. Much harder to design than it looks, I’m sure. And thanks much for sharing it!

Love it. Assembly on these hollow polyhedrals can be tricky. Nicely done!

Oooh, it’s been a while since we had a nice polyhedron! @evansd2 and @pubultrastar created some amazing ones back in the day.

The transparent acrylic was a nice choice for this one!

Edited to add: Ooh, y’all should go look at @shiying’s Instagram!

Thank you @ptodd and @kelley1.

That was just a few years ago, yet it seems like time flies.

I stand corrected by @evansd2, a few months ago. However @pubultrastar did say that he was retiring from polyhedra, although he is now 3D printing them with some :glowforge: cut parts in them.

And time still seems to go faster.

Faster and faster, the older you get!

Ahem… This one was in August.

This one too:

(And I made several others that I never published around that time too! )

The 5 intersecting tetrahedra model is almost a rite of passage in polyhedra, it’s tricky to assemble, the forms weave together.

I never did one, and I also skipped the frabjous, in favor of a couple of other builds that sort of push the same boundaries as the interlocking tetrahedrons.

  • There were these woven edge models that are sort of like tensegrities:

  • And these guys, woven intersecting octahedral forms.

  • And then there’s these, which are maybe closest to the interlocking tetrahedrons – I don’t even know what to call them. I go into the geometry for each of the 4, they’re tricky enough that I have never built another after I did this
