Maker Faire was my first ever convention as a new business. I went with a bit of fear and a lot of excitement. I shipped out my props and got a plane ticket. How is the Delayed Shipment Bonus Calculated?
Good question - I’m sorry I didn’t make that clear. The bonus keeps increasing per individual, up until you personally get an email that your Glowforge is ready for shipment. Then it stops accruing, whether you decide to accept shipment now or later.
I’ll try to remember to mention that in the next monthly update.

Pencil Park

Scary Escutcheon
Decided “The Scream” escutcheon, while amusing just wasn’t awesome (more snarky - which admittedly is me) so after watching the first 3 episodes of the latest season of 12 Monkeys, figured that would be awesome in Inventables translucent 1/8" red acrylic.

Cutting Board Comparison
Back in the Dark Ages of the forum, I posted a photo of a bamboo cutting board I made on an 80W Rabbit laser: Flammarion Engraving Cutting Board
Here’s its big big sister fresh from the Glowforge:

The original JPEG was 300 dpi, this was engraved on bamboo at 1/150/225.
It was unmasked and I haven’t cleaned it yet. The smaller one is ~2 years old and has been through the dishwasher multiple times and freshened with mineral oil occasionally.

Simplistic in design and a cinch to make with a pre-release Glowforge and my old standby favorite, embossing powder, these little pins harken to buried pirate treasure, your location in a shopping mall…or souvenirs for sale in a park gift shop.

Cat Shelves Deployed
Today was install day at my wife’s practice for the cat perch and cat steps . I ended up going with a distressed stain in green (it’s supposed to be foliage/cat themed for the tree).
So why distressed? Well because super cheap 1/8" birch ply takes stain like crap. But as someone who views problems as challenges, figured, well heck why not embrace that too? It looks more natural. So I didn’t put prestain on, and didn’t concentrate on really getting a smooth look. And where the spew from the lase…

Quick Celebration Projects
Here are a couple quick projects I did today for a retirement and a birthday.
The retirement gift is for a friend who likes wine (which I know nothing about, so I had to solicit advice from the sales guy). I wanted a tag to put on the bottle to personalize it. The design came from one of those cool bundle deals Creative Market puts on. Here’s a link to the graphics. Light Up Game
Yves already posted a little about my community day project, so I thought I’d fully share it.
Every year, my office has a community day, to celebrate the community and diversity of our very, VERY large team. This year, I volunteered to help with my group’s table for this event, which included creating a light up game.
I decided to do all the parts with the glowforge. I first made the frame/base of the game, which would hold the top panel up, and hide the electronics.

Trying Something New
I seem to get stuck in certain modes, so I’m trying to branch out and try new things. Made this with PG leather…the last of the pieces that came with the Glowforge. I have ordered some more. My first mistake here was that I made this way too large to fit me. I’m still having a difficult time figuring out how to size these correctly…especially to account for any weaving or braiding (which I’ve also tried), but by damn, I’ll get it eventually. Vector engrave at 80/300/225
Feels almost totally smooth and is glassy/glossy. Very cool effect that I’ll leverage for a different project.

Need to play around with the cut holes a bit more in the Gallifreyan…and may try to actually play with the language a bit to get other designs since I think it looks pretty killer (apparently there is actually a whole language key the fans have made that I never knew about!)
