Another (Single Pass) 3D Engrave Test

For the most part, poplar is great. It is not as dense as some of the other hardwoods, which is great for getting good depth, but it isnt as great at holding detail. I picked up some hardwood maple last night and did an engrave on it, and it hold so much more detail. I want to try one of the Trotec engravings on it soon to see how it looks. [image] My dice tower is coming along nicely, and since I was lucky enough to have a snow day yesterday, I was able to knock out another iteration! [image] So from my last version here is what I changed… I love the living hinge, but they didn’t work very well as the internal bumpers. I wanted to keep the hinge, but decided to make the two bumpers flat with the hinge forming a slide out of the tower. I thought it looked super cool and saved the picture, but never got around to finding the belts to recreate it! Sublimating some Dye

Mixed media ideas

I recently read about applying a couple coats of Minwax Polycrylic to any hard flat surface and dye sublimating on to that. The inks get sublimated into the Polycrylic. I tried it on a few random pieces of scrap wood and even a sheet of corrugated cardboard. The results were very good. My favorite was this autumn photo I sublimated onto a piece of birch plywood. New maker toy arrived today. I had kickstarted the FR4 from PocketNC, which is a simple small CNC milling machine (I already have a 1000mm X-Carve). Decided to dust off my K40 - haven’t touched it since before Xmas but got the itch. I mentioned earlier that I was able to cut the flooring samples from Home Depot - after planeing (sic) them down and multiple multiple passes (stuff is hard).
